From August 9th to the 21st we will be sending out 5 people to Thailand and India with Bright Hope World. "Bright Hope World is a Christian based, humanitarian organization with a vision of seeing the poorest of the poor become spiritually and physically self sustaining."-BHW They do this through organizing micro lending to indigenous people that have a vision to transform their community. Our team will be going to Southeast Asia to visit nine of Bright Hope World's partnerships, including three that we are currently partnering with as a church. Our goal is seeking new international partners, visiting and encouraging our existing partners, and introducing our next generation to International Missions. The team is made up of people from all different stages of life; meet them below. Angela Borges Angela is excited and honored to be leading the International Missions Ministry at East Park Church. She feels God has continuously called her to be a part of international mission throughout her life. It is her passion to be a voice for the marginalized and to encourage others to look outside borders to see what God is doing. We know God wants us to make this mission trip to Thailand and India to build on what God has already called East Park to do with international mission, and Angela is confident she is called to be a part of it both as a leader and a participant. Jordan Lawson A recent high school graduate, Jordan is looking forward to learning more about East Park’s current international mission partners. He is passionate about international missions; it is the crossroad of his passion for international affairs and serving the poor and disadvantaged both locally and globally. He is looking forward to bringing a young perspective to the team and gaining a greater international missions mindset to use in East Park youth ministry. Tom Borges Tom believes that God intends life to be lived to the fullest. He loves to create, whether it be woodworking, written word, art, or music, and feels privileged to serve on the worship team at East Park Church. Tom's experiences of travelling abroad, working in law enforcement, and working in communities affected by poverty continue to shape his love for people. He firmly believes in East Park's approach to international missions, and is excited to see firsthand the impact our partners are having in their communities so we can better understand how to support them, and how to serve our own communities at home. Katie Boda An incoming freshman at Union, who loves friends, adventure, Pinterest and teaching others about how much Jesus loves them! Katie is thrilled God has placed this opportunity in front of her. She is excited to meet all the partners, both current and possible, and explore their passion and focus. Katie has a heart for International Missions and feels God has called her to go on this trip to gain greater clarity regarding whether she is being called to going overseas later in life. She is excited to bring a youthful perspective and can’t wait! Kathi Rosumny Kathi is really excited about going on this mission trip to Asia, a completely new experience for her. Before becoming a mom, her passion was teaching. Kathi’s experiences teaching in low income communities furthered her desire to be an encourager and advocate for others. She is most looking forward to meeting East Park’s international partners and seeing how their efforts are changing the lives of the people they work with. Kathi is nervous about the enormity of this trip, but she is also 100% confident that God has called her to go and that this experience will be life changing. She’s already looking forward to sharing what she learns. Please pray for our team! Ways you can be praying are: that we would be able to discern what God is communicating to us; the trip would provide clarity for seeking new partnerships; and our delicate Westernized palates will not be overcome by the spicy food!
